Abstract

The world is currently endangered; government and people of many countries are concerned about the the endemicity of pollutants in our otherwise aesthetic environment. Africa generally, and Nigeria in particular are yet to maximize the benefits of using biotechnology in maintenance of the beautiful environment. Biotechnology is the current trend in production process
Across the world as opposed to the conventional chemical synthesis of products. The reason is due to the fact that biotechnology tools are eco-friendly while the later tools add pollutants and wastes into our environment. The conventional tools for treating pollutants such as incineration or landfills are associated with a lot of problems. In view of this, there is need for alternative, economical, and reliable biological methods of treating pollutants. Biotechnology tools are those processes of bio scientific interests that use the chemistry of living organisms through cell manipulation to develop new and alternative methods aimed at cleaner and more effective ways of producing traditional products and at the same time maintaining the natural and aesthetic beauty of the environment. This paper addresses the issues relating to the use of biotechnological tools in solving the problem of environmental degradation in Nigeria, with a view to encouraging the adoption of these tools in mitigating the impact of waste on the environment.
